Found in forested wetlands, including along rivers, swamps, marshes, ponds, and lakes, the Wood Duck is one of only a few North American ducks that nest in trees. They prefer nesting over water so the young have a soft landing, but will nest up to 150 yards away from the shoreline.
I painted this Wood Duck Pair with Admiration for their beautiful Coloring. The number of colors in most Ducks or Geese are minimal compared to the Color Spectrum worn by the Wood Duck. This Waterfowl is why I Love Painting Wildlife Art with all of its Diversity.
