The Scaled Quail, also commonly called Blue Quail or Cottontop Quail, is found in the arid regions of the Southwestern United States and Northern Mexico. Scaled Quail are swift afoot and often prefer to run rather than hide or fly.
My Pastel Painting of this Scaled Quail Pair was a fun part of my Quail Art series. The Six Species of Quail in North America, California Quail, Mountain Quail, Gambel's Quail, Bobwhite Quail, Montezuma Quail and Scaled Quail, have given me a real Appreciation of the Quail Species in Wildlife.
