The Montezuma Quail, also known as the Mearns Quail, is found (or usually overlooked) from Oaxaca north through the interior of Mexico to the mountains of central and southeastern Arizona, central and southwestern New Mexico, and west Texas.
Of the Six North American Quail Species, the Montezuma Quail is one of the best at Camouflage. I had Fun painting these two and can really appreciate how you could walk up to within five feet of a Mearns Quail Covey and Not See Them!
