The Gambel's Quail are found almost exclusively in the southwestern United States, mainly in Arizona. Their range extends into Mexico, east to parts of Texas, west to California and a small part of southern Utah, Nevada and Colorado.
I had fun painting this pastel with two Gambel's Quail sitting in a Prickly Pear cactus. The Montezuma Quail, Scaled Quail, and Gambel's Quail all live in a Desert Habitat. I always Marval at Wildlife and how each species survives in its own Environment.
